Zach Espeland, a junior tenor sax player, is a member of the Wind Ensemble. He auditioned into the top band at ETSBOA Senior Clinic. In addition to tenor saxophone, Zach is an accomplished pianist – a skill he has been developing since the third grade. Zach is also a pole vaulter for the DB track and field team, a Boy Scout, and a member of the Beta and NHS clubs.

Jalesha Turner

Jalesha Turner is a senior who has played clarinet for seven years, beginning in the 6th grade at John Sevier Middle School. During her Junior year at Dobyns-Bennett, she achieved the position of Squad Leader for the clarinet section. Jalesha continued in a leadership capacity as she was awarded the role of Drum Major her Senior year. She is planning to attend the University of Tennessee next fall.

All-City Band

The All City Band Concert is coming up on February 21st. This concert features the combined 8th grade band members from Sevier and Robinson Middle School as well

the DB Wind Ensemble. The schedule is below: Come out and support these future members of the Dobyns-Bennett Band!

7:15 – 7:45am Parents bring 8th grade students from Sevier and Robinson to the Dobyns-Bennett High School Instrumental Music Building. Enter from the Eastman Road/Stadium Court side. Be sure to bring all instruments and music.

8:00 – 11:00am Rehearsals and clinics with DB band directors and students.

11:00am Lunch, provided by Dobyns-Bennett Band Parents. Free.

Noon Load buses and return to Sevier and Robinson. Leave instruments and music at DB.

5:45pm Parents drop off students at the DB Instrumental Music Building. Students should be dressed in All-City Band T-shirts, full length blue jeans, and tennis shoes. Wind Ensemble students arrive and meet in the Orchestra Room.

6:00pm Warm-up.

6:30pm Parents may take seats in audience.

6:45pm Concert: 8th Grade Combined Band and Wind Ensemble

7:30pm Event is over; students should take all instruments and music home with them.

Youngblood Brass Band

Swiss Top Secret Drum Corps

For those of you who are drumline fans, this video won’t disappoint. Taking marching percussion to a different level, the “Top Secret Drum Corps” is known across Europe as a premier ensemble. Can’t wait to see them live – IN SCOTLAND! For now, we’ll settle for youtube.

Celin Alvarado

Celin Alvarado is a senior French horn player in the wind ensemble. She was also drum major for the marching band this past fall, serving as the head drum major. Celin is one of a very few Dobyns-Bennett Band students to have served as drum major for three years. In her spare time Celin enjoys listening to music and polishing her homecoming queen tiara. Celin plans on attending the University of South Carolina in the fall.

1:30 p.m. Leave for Park Vista Hotel, Gatlinburg

3:00 p.m. Stop in Sevierville for lunch

4:00 p.m. Load and leave for Park Vista

4:45 p.m. Arrive Park Vista, check in and prepare for evening practice

12:00 noon Break for lunch – Parents will transport to downtown

1:30 p.m. Leave downtown to return for afternoon rehearsal

3:30 p.m. Blue band winds & percussion selected for the Orchestra will rehearse with the Orchestra

NOTE: All rehearsals and performances will be in the Grand Ballroom. Students will need to remove all luggage from their room because check out time is before you have finished (or have even started) your concerts. There will be a place to store your luggage while you perform.

PARENT NOTE:

Parents are responsible for transportation of students from Gatlinburg home after the concerts on Saturday, February 7. Students should bring money for at least 5 meals and snacks. Due to limited parking, parents will need to either arrive early for concerts or park at Civic Center and ride shuttle to Park Vista.

Daniel Jernigan

Daniel Jernigan is a sophomore and plays the alto saxophone. He loves music and is currently enrolled in Mr. Gilberts AP Music Theory Class. Daniel also loves to play the guitar and enjoys his involvement in the Dobyns-Bennett Radio Club. Listen to Daniel’s radio show on Kingsport’s City School Station 90.3 FM every Tuesday from 5pm – 6pm.
