Concert Band Auditions 2011-2012
Every student must audition. Students will be scored on the required elements and ranked in order by instrument. Students will then be placed in one of our three concert bands based on their score as an indicator of what they difficulty of music they are capable of playing and what level of instruction they need. The other consideration for band placement is instrumentation (one concert band can’t have 10 oboes!)
Requirements:
Scales:
In order to be considered for Wind Ensemble you must play all 12 major scales and arpeggios. You must also play these scales and arpeggios multiple octaves when applicable.
In order to be considered for Symphonic Band you must perform all 12 major scales but do ot need to play arpeggios. However, if you do play arpeggios you will receive additional points and will likely be in a higher chair.
If you choose to only play the MINIMUM 7 Scales you will likely be placed in Concert Band. These scales are concert F, Bb, Eb, Ab, Db, Gb, G, D, C. The more octaves you play the higher score you will receive.
